Hi all.

On the GTi 30th edition the car comes with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tyres at 205/40 R18 86Y the offset is ET20. Current Alloys are 18x7.5.

The issue is I have tried a million companies and no one has or can get that tyre for at least 10 weeks.

Options 1: (change tyre brand)
Dunlop sport Maxx RT
Pirelli PZero AR or ARR
Bridgestone Potenza RE050
Yokohama S.Drive

Option 2: (Change all 4 to a different size)
change all the tyres to 225/35 R18
This gives me many more options but results in a rotational difference on the speedo of +1.06% 60mph would be 60.63mph (though one site says 60km/h will be 50.94/km/h

235/35R18 is a better match at 0.1% difference but only 1 tyre is an option.

Option 3: (change alloys and tyres)
18x8 With 215/40 R18 change offset top 25 Speedo difference 60mpg is 59.24mph(other site says 60km/h is 60.8km/h) Alloy sticks out 1.3mm more

For now ignore the relevance of cost. I was going to change the alloys down the line anyway, this just might make me do it sooner.

the super sport michelins in a 205 R18 are rare and maybe why you need to change,
the Pirelli and bridgestone seem the most common

Its an MOT fail if the tyre sits outside of the wheel arch. 75% of tyre has to be in the arch or 1/4" cant stick out.

Do you think my car would accept 18x8j alloys?

Looking at www.willtheyfit.com

18x8 differences are these offset will be 25 instead of the 20 currently on my car.
205/40 = 0 = 60 is 60mph this would stretch i'm guessing?
215/40 = - 1.27% = 60 is 59.24mph
225/35 = +1.06% = 60 is 60.63mph

Alloy is 11.4m closer to suspension and sticks out 1.3m more

How about measuring your tyre to wheel arch distance now, thats what I did to see if my 7.5J with an ET25 would still be okay. Your 30th is about 10mm wider track so you could pop round and look at mine and we try to crunch the maths that way, or on Monday I try to sheck it out for you. The rears dont matter so much as you have a arch extension already on the back ones.

dont think this last comment will help but my 7.5J compared to stock 7.0 ended up giving me 5mm wider track on each side(car is now 10mm wider track than stock)

You will have find similar rims to try them on to be sure. I once tried some retired WTCC rims, they're 17" 9J, don't remember their ET, something like 30-ish, they fit perfectly well on my GTi without spacers, even have a lot of extra room for my Alcon callipers, about 5mm clearance inside on full turn. Too bad they're actually 114.3x4, now just need some good machine shop to drill some holes on my wheel hubs.

But man, those retired WTCC rims from Cruize are SO STUPIDLY light, they're about half of the weight of GTi's stock wheels even with 235 tyres on. Cheap as hell as well, the shop I know got them for ÂŁ20 each with some half used slick tyres on them, and I can have them for ÂŁ40 each.

I measured my tyre to wheel arch today, its a bit of a bad figure due to camber(-2.5) but I still have 10mm on 7.5J to outer of wheel arch. My Borbet alloys are ET25(Ome is ET20)

I will say when I was 30mm lower than ome on stock 7J alloys it could touch the arches with tyre at full lock but that is also that camber was -3.5.

Its a minefield but basically from pontus, an ET18 is lowest you can go (before needing spacer). From me as a general rule you should only go +5 or -5 ET from what the stock setup was or its trouble which can take a lot of fettling to sort out. Fettling is expensive.

Whats good is reputable companies wouldnt want to sell you a wheel with a crazy offest.

Okay so I counted remove the wheel today because the socket I needed has gone missing. The misses has put it down somewhere but she can't remember where! So I have ordered a new one.

I did manages to take some rough measurements.

Top of the tyre to edge of outside wheel arch Front 25mm / rear 25mm

Rear Edge of tyre to suspension strut 50mm
Rear edge of tyre to inside of wheel arch 50mm

Front edge of tyre to suspension strut 50mm
Front edge of tyre to inside of wheel arch 130/140mm (I struggled to get a good measurement)

This measurement I check due to my wider track and also more aggressive camber.
Front and rear Top of tyre to outside edge of wheel arch 10mm
Front and rear Bottom of tyre to outside edge of wheel arch 5mm

Okay I will get looking.

One thing I didn't think/know about was the middle bore? I have no idea what it is or how what it does? I think my car is 65.1 and I found some wheels that were 73.1, ebay have some rings that do the conversion. Was for a BMW but seemed to be the measurements I needed.

Okay I took a wheel off today and then cleaned it and took some photos of the inside of the wheel. These are 18" Alloys from a GTi 30th Edition

So what do all the numbers and stuff mean?
I'm sorry for some of the photos being upside down. I have rotated them on photobucket and still they appear upside down on here.
