Interior sound quality

So as we all know the interior speakers are pretty naff.

I have come from an Audi with the B&O upgrade and I have now got to the point where sound is the next on my modding list.

I am wondering what people have done. I would of liked to remove the factor head unit for a better quality Unit with a better DAC and output to a much higher resolution amp and then on to speakers.
In home Hifi which is a passion of mine the speakers are one of the last parts you go to.
Source > DAC > PRE AMP+AMP > Speakers.
In cars most people seem to pay the most attention to the speakers.

So I am trying to get the best of what I can from the car. I am guessing internal speaker upgrade is first with stock head unit. What have people done or used? Did you upgrade all 6 speakers I think it is? 2 door tweeters, 2 door speakers, 2 rear speakers?

I would like to keep the USB input as I need that to maintain the quality of the FLAC, ALAC files I have.

Any input would be great. I have never ventured into car audio before as its always been the last one of my list on things to do. Now I have my eye set on a decent sound for my music.

Need some thoughts on this topic too

My research so far:
- it seems that our Head Unit is already pretty good
- Replacing the two rear speaker is not critical, if you adjust the balance of the speaker to the front, all you need is to invest in a good set of front speaker. (2 tweeters and 2 main/woofers). Most speaker brand you choose includes 2-way component (tweeter and main speaker)
- a standalone subwoofer is important if you listen to modern bass music (i'm not confident about this, i'd like to avoid subwoofer if i could)
