How to fit LED DRL with working sidelights

Thought I would help out here as there are loads of posts where people have tried to fit LED DRL to their 208 and just ended up blowing the fuse, or they have fitted the single filament LEDs and lost either sidelights or DRL's.

The first and most important thing is to buy 2 filament LED's as the bulb should be on high power for DRL and dim down to low power when the headlights are turned on (so people are not blinded by the DRL's at night), make sure there are 4 wires on the plug and not just 2.

These are the ones I bought:

I fitted these and blew the DRL fuse as all others have reported, so started investigating further.

The wiring to these LED's are not suitable for our cars and can't be used to replace W21/5W bulbs directly, they have to be modded.

If you check the wiring you have one +ve and one -ve on each side of the LED while our cars need both -ve on one side and both +ve on the other side which is why the fuses blow when fitted.

The first thing to do is find the two -ve wires, they are linked together and can easily be found with a multimeter, when you touch the two -ve wires it will show a short.

1, The two -ve wires are next to each other (but on opposite sides), all you have to do is bend one to the other side, so they are both on the same side and no longer on opposing sides.

2, Step two bend the remaining (DRL +ve) wire as shown in the photo so again the 2 +ve wires are also on the same side but nicely spaced, one at each end.

3, I also put some insulation tape on the top edge, just to cover the horizontal bit of the +ve.

The bulbs are now ready to go!

Shine a torch into the holder and you will see all the tabs on one side (-ve) are connected together, on the other side (+ve) they are divided into two (DRL & sidelight), this tells you which way to insert the bulb ----- -ve to the solid side +ve to the split side.

Here are some pics to help, nice bright white light on DLR and reduced white light when the headlights are on.

Above are the -ve now on one side.

This is the top view which I did cover the exposed wire with some insulation tape just to be extra safe.

Just for information the DRL +ve is the one that was bent to the new position and the sidelight +ve is the +ve that was not moved.

Now everyone who bought LED DRL and blew a fuse can dig them out again and start modding ------ Enjoy!

I have no idea why my pictures are gone, I uploaded them to the forum so it must me a forum issue.

All you need to do is find the two negative wired, that is easy as they will have continuity with a multi-meter., twist them to one side, anywhere will do. Next the other two wires need to be on the opposite side at either end with a good spacing.

You next just need to get it in the bulb holder the right way around, just use a torch and look inside the holder, the negative side only has one large contact plate, the other side has two which need to line up with the wires you spaced.
