Hi all,

Purchased a 208 GTI Limited Edition back in september 2013. Got 5800 miles on the clock and has been back and forth to the dealers far too many times..

Last week took in due to engine management light came on. Dealer kept car and a few days later phoned to say that VVT components have badly worn and entire top part of engine from head gasket upwards needs replacing including cylinder head etc...

This is the third new PSA car i've had since 2010 that has had engine failures and problems. See www.crappycitroen.co.uk

I've been told that "that is what the warranty is for" far too many times over the past 4 years from dealers. They don't seem to get it that I want a car that works and not have to spend must of the time in loan cars.

Anyone else had similar problems?

Welcome to the site , sorry to hear about the problems you have been having ..

why though would you come back to 2 different PSA engines after all the trouble in the past ??

Thanks for the reply.

What got me out of the twingo gordini was the 208 itself. Cracking drive, nice interior, plenty of power. All manufacturers have bad cars. Seen recently a 14 plate bmw self combust and two new merc with terminal gearbox and electrical problems. Had lots of older renaults and vws from early 80s to 2000s with no major problems,

PSA supply the engine blocks and pistons and bmw supply the cylinderhead and fuel systems. On three cars ive had probs with everything from headgasket upwards.

By now ive developed a sense of humour about psa cars. The seem to be the new alfa regarding build quality...

The twingo gordini never went in for any warranty work in 30 months..

Also my gti has had 3 alloy wheels replaced under warranty due to corrosion

I'm glad to see you can laugh about it !

Hi I don't know if you saw my earlier posts about my GTI this last week, but my car is in the garage as we speak with engine problems. Engine fault light kept coming on and they can't seem to find out what's wrong with it. I got it from new and has the same mileage on it as yours.

Ok quick update.

Car returned last tuesday. Driven it for a week and today checked fluids under bonnet.

Coolant expansion tak was below minimum and there is oily gunge in the water. looks like they've not fitted the head gasket properly. Car on 5600 miles.

Taking it back to the dealers tomorrow morning.

They said it would be about 3 - 4 days before they can look at it. I've asked them to replace the engine as its been compromised with all the metal filings from the worn cylinder head and now the coolant(and lots of it) sitting in the botom of the sump.. on startup it sounded like a diesel where there is no lubrication.

Hi guys,
I was just googling for "engine fault 208 gti" and found this forum, seems then that I am not alone out there.

Got my 208 GTi in July 2013 new from dealers and this is now the 6th time at the dealers or acfredited station. One hour ago whilst dirving back to the office the engine fault light came on and it feels like all power just vanished, turbo I thought but reading your replies it might not be that simple.

I should have learned my lesson after my Xsara VTS I had... The Pug keeps doing odd stuff leectronically but when handed into the dealers they can't find any error codes, very odd.
The parking system gives fault indications every now and again for instance, and the alarm starts going off for no reason (doors open and unlocked) or the alarm function button is lit whilst driving (which apparently it should not be). Nothing provides an error code.
The plastic around the lights and/or the bit where the panorama closes is rattling especially around and above 60 mph / 100 kmh, which is driving me nuts. Had it in for this and non functioning bluetooth / scraping noise before but they haven't seem to be able to fix it. Keep having those annoying "something is loose somwhere" noises from underneath the steering or around as well as somewhere in the back, drives me mad.
Driver's door is already a bit off its hinges after only 15k klicks / 10k miles and now this enigne fault thing...

Anyone had any of the above other faults as well or am I just the luckiest fella on the planet?

Oh and I almost forgot about the temperature gauge / sensor which was replaced as the warning for that came on when starting it cold. Apparently also a common problem. The steering is also not 100% centered but slightly off to the left but I have gotten so used to it now I just can't be bothered anymore, but I just might do something about that too.
Oh and then it was recalled twice, once for something I can't remember and recently for a lead that goes to the gearbox (if i remember correctly). Oh the endless bouts of joy this car has given me with this...

I think these can put fear in people. I am lucky enough to know a very very good mechanic. Who advises me on what is wrong with the car. He did and fixed everything on my old car. With my gti, Being only a 13 plate, I obviously still got two years guarantee. So he's still checked over the car when I got it. And said hell double check before I take it in if I have problems so I know what to expect and they don't try and bulls**t me.
I know this won't help you lot. But, sometimes I think laying too much to what happens to other can scare you.Chin up guys. I love my car. :)

Right, so got the GTi back now after handing it in Thursday. And the actuator had gone and broke jsut after 10k miles, seems then that this might be the case for you as well Dave, figners crossed it's nothing else. You should have seen all power drop though if you drive it. Fix was quick, but makes you wonder...
