Peugeot's 208 GTI hot hatch has been spied testing almost completely undisguised less than a month before its world debut at the Paris motor show.
These spy pictures show that the look of the 208 GTI will stay true to the concept car of the same name from the Geneva motor show earlier this year. The only major change appears to be the fitting of more conventional alloy wheels.
Peugeot bosses have previously said that the 208 GTI will not be as hard-edged as hot hatch rivals, which include the Renault Clio 200. Instead, the firm believes that there is a niche for a hot hatch that has everyday usability as well as performance.
Interesting to see what is said here - originally the rumours were it would be a 200bhp version of the thp engine as used in the rcz but this would indicate it will be lower spec - there is already a 156bhp version available so asume they must be pitching it around the 175bhp as the current 207 GTi. No details on the offical site yet so not available yet - again initial rumours were that would only actually be released if 208 sold well and there appeared to be demand for a GTi. Wil be interestign to see what they actually do.
Just read the info from the autocar link and looks like they are going close to 200bhp however price seems a bit steep at £21000 - clio 200 is less than £20000 as is corsa vxr which is 197bhp so they seem to be overpricing the 208 if that info is correct.
