Hi All,

Hopefully someone can help (Comkotes perhaps?).

My engine management light has come on recently. I used my OBD2 reader to get the code which was P1340. A general search online lead me to believe it was a 'camshaft position sensor B' error which could be linked to a whole range of issues, including dreaded timing chain issues...

I decided to search these forums and saw a couple of threads claiming that P1340 means something different on pugs/ 208s and is actually a 'cylinder 4 misfire' error.

I took it to an independent garage and aside from saying I needed a replacement battery (a completely unrelated thing) they said they tried replacing a coil and it didn't fix the error and they suggest I take it to a pug specialist to get the timing chain looked at. I do not believe them and think they have done nothing and fobbed me off as they were too busy with other cars.

I've decided to buy new ignition coils and new spark plugs from Euro Car Parts and book it in at a different garage to have them fitted, hoping this will fix my car.

Please can someone (hopefully) confirm that this P1340 error is a coil or plug issue. The symptoms are - Turning key to start engine there is a delay and struggle like when a battery is nearly flat. Sitting at idle the car starts to judder about (engine ticking over badly and shaking in the engine bay). Fans immediately kick in (like super loud) upon start up. Once revs are up and driving the car 'smooths out' a bit and drives OK-ish but there is a lack of power lower in the rev range, almost like a massive turbo lag then it picks up power.

I've done a couple of short journeys (circa 3 miles) since I've has the error so hopefully this is ok?

Edit - if it helps with diagnosis, my car is Stage 1 modded (AMD map, TSRM induction, GFB recirc, miltek exhaust).

Cheers.

So -

Nobody here seems to know.

Update -

Had new ignition coils and new spark plugs fitted. It has NOT solved the problem. So I'm guessing it is an issue with my timing chain or something....although my engine isn't making any dodgy noises like my wife's old DS3 did so I really don't get it.

My own 208GTi seems to be having a similar problem to you, especially regarding the symptom of struggling the start from cold, having a rough idle and having no power.

I've read on this forum and others that it could be an issue with the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP), engine/water sensors, or other issues. I'm interested to hear more from Danny Carman about his solution.

I had this code with RCZ just reset the engine warning light by holding the service button down then turning the engine on. Hold it down for 10 seconds. All fault codes disappeared. Fan & engine started working fine again. I'd changed the battery the day before so guess it was something to do with that
